Week 4 Goals
Part One: Set Your Educational Goals
My educational goals are straightforward, I will make sure to complete the CSUMB computer science program in 2026. While doing so I will create a meaningful portfolio to showcase all the knowledge I have accumulated within the program, and make it appealing so that I can look back on it with nostalgia. In addition, I will make it my educational goal to achieve a Masters degree in Computer Science, so that I could be the first one in my family with a graduate degree. As for some short term goals, I want to enhance my knowledge in networking protocols and get better at identifying certain data structures and algorithms. Also passing the ETS Computer Science test.
Part Two: Set Your Career Goals
The career goals I have set for myself would be to pursue a career in health tech. I have always wanted to work in the healthcare industry, though not specifically as a health practitioner, nurse, or doctor but rather someone who would help manage and develop software or applications that ensure technology in the medical field are safe and up to par to modern standards. Specifically I will pursue a career in Health Informatics as that was my original plan since the beginning of my career journey. I just love working with data and being able to do so in a medical field would be exciting. If this does not work out, I will pursue a career in video game development as I have always enjoyed games and the methodology in which they are created. It would be nice to develop something that may become popular among the general population.
Part Three: Take a wild guess of your percentile of the ETS Computer Science test
Part Four: Keep Up With Your Learning Journal
It was interesting to see everyone takes on AI through the discussion board about the implications of AI in the workplace. Most of my peers have said that companies would value a person who is AI-literate due to the fact that it acts as a tool to help enhance productivity and provide insights to their work. Also many have also said that AI is like the new calculator but much more powerful. I actually agree with a majority of their takes especially with the sensible utilization of AI. A lot of the writing lab materials for this week were very familiar to me, as they jogged my memory and helped me recall some aspects of writing an argumentative paper, for example presenting two stakeholders in an unbiased manner. In addition to this week, I was able to collaborate with members of the Replicant Collective in some ice-breakers and understand their functionality as group members. The biggest takeaway for the week is getting familiar with the ETS test; its making me anxious for the future. Although now I can surely add it as an educational goal to achieve for the future.
Little picture of a bike ride as a motivator for myself
Hello Brandon, your trusted coach is here. I hope you go through with your plan to obtain a masters in computer science. This will enrich your mind as well as your life, and you gain the bragging rights of being the first in your family to have obtained a masters.
ReplyDeleteI also respect your decision to use the experience you'll gain for the field of medicine to improve the quality of software there. It will actually be helping people and not just be used for turning a digital profit.
Also I admire your will to get into the video game industry. Sometimes the thought of pursuing the same goal discourages me because of the she sheer vastness of the industry. I hope we can both overcome the challenges life will produce, in order to see these goals to completion
Hey Brandon,
ReplyDeleteYour education goal of achieving a Masters degree in Computer Science is very admirable! You have a great plan laid out, completing CSUMB's computer science program while building a portfolio will set you up for success when you look to start your career.
It also sounds as though you have your sights on a specific goal, that's great to see! Health Informatics is a great way to combine your passion for data science with the healthcare industry. Its always important to have a backup plan, and having the video game industry be an alternative route shows versatility. No matter which path you take I wish you success!
